Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to give back

PUBLISHED November 1, 2022

An annual event that encourages giving to charity, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to give back and help out those who need it most. Since its inception in 2012, Giving Tuesday has grown in popularity every year, with participants from all over the world pledging their support through donations of their time and money in order to make a positive difference in their community and the lives of others. As this year’s Giving Tuesday approaches, here are some ways you can use your resources to help your favorite cause succeed.

What Is Giving Tuesday?

If you haven’t heard of it, Giving Tuesday is a way for people around to world to donate their time and money after shopping during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s also a great way for companies, schools, and churches to gather donations on a single day. Giving Tuesday happens on November 29 this year.

The name comes from Cyber Monday, which was created in 2005 by American retailers as a counterpart to Black Friday. Thus, giving last week became giving Tuesday! This is not only important because today brings attention to charitable causes that are often pushed aside or forgotten about when compared with other retail holidays but it helps remind us what giving really means in its truest form.

Donate To Charity Instead Of Buying Gifts

Instead of dropping a few hundred dollars on a loved one, why not donate that money to charity? This Giving Tuesday, you can do just that. Instead of buying your sister a new handbag or getting your brother-in-law tickets to see his favorite band play next month, consider giving to charity instead. People get joy from spending time and money on others (and themselves), and research shows that we’re far more likely to spend our hard-earned cash on others than ourselves anyway.

Helping nonprofits helps the community

Many of us have seen how hard it can be for families in times of crisis, both natural and human-made. Whether you are giving on Giving Tuesday or not, it’s important to support nonprofits that do good work in our communities. When someone needs help, they turn to local nonprofit organizations for support.

Ways to give

There are a number of ways you can show your support for a charitable cause or non-profit organization. Perhaps you’d like to make a financial donation, hold a fundraising event, volunteer your time, or spread awareness about an important cause.

On this Giving Tuesday, give as much as you can and as often as you can, and do it from your heart! Every bit counts towards helping those in need.

Donate to Foundation 99

Foundation 99’s Giving Tuesday fundraiser was created to prioritize minority success through financial literacy. Your donation will give the gift of financial independence by providing the tools and resources to break generational poverty. Racial minority low-wage earners will receive one-to-one financial advising. Through proper education and mentorship, we can create the futures we want.
This Giving Tuesday, help us reach our goal of $99,999! Please consider donating to our Every.org Campaign.
